    eSports is an emerging sport that involves professional players competing against one another through video games. It is an immensely popular form of competitive gaming that doesn’t require any physical contact between players. Esports players have a high level of concentration and practice. In some cases, they spend more than 50 hours a week playing a single game. The players even eat their meals while discussing game strategy or watching videos of previous matches.

    Franchises are becoming more common in the esports industry and have become an important part of the overall structure of the industry. Franchises are created to give a specific team the right to compete in a league and earn a share of the league’s revenues. They can be separate entities or they can be direct shareholders of a league.

    It is a lucrative industry

    It’s no secret that eSports are a lucrative industry. Players can earn money through sponsorships, league salaries, and endorsements. It’s estimated that brands will invest $694 million in eSports ventures this year. The industry is also set to continue to grow. By 2018, it’s expected that 1.6 billion people will have heard about eSports. That’s more than a fifth of the world’s population.

    It is open to all

    Unlike other sports, esports is open to everyone and doesn’t discriminate against gender. However, it’s important to note that very few women participate in the esports world. For example, the only female player in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games was Jacinta “Jia” Dee. This lack of female representation is likely a result of the perception that esports is a predominantly male sport. This view leads to the perception that women are inferior players and are regarded as weak players, which doesn’t reflect the reality.

    It is structured

    Esports competitions have evolved from their traditional counterparts to include more elements and broader audiences. For example, the league structure of League of Legends (LoL) is different depending on region. While micro settings vary widely, the basic principles are the same for all regions.

    It is free

    Unlike traditional sports, eSports is free to participate in. It started in the 1980s when Atari held a Space Invaders Championship, where 10,000 people competed to be the best space invader in the world. These games have changed and improved over the years. There are many professionals in the world who trace their aptitude for their fields to gaming.

    It has a global audience

    Esports has a global audience that includes a diverse mix of people from different backgrounds. The audience is relatively young and well-off; a recent study shows that 43 percent of esports fans are above the age of thirty. This means that there is a large audience hungry for new content. And unlike before, when esports were only popular among geeky teenage boys, the appeal of the industry has expanded rapidly. A recent Australian survey found that over four million people watched esports. While most esports competitions are held online, there is no denying that LAN tournaments can be postponed, canceled, or delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.
