eSports is a form of competitive video game play that is gaining popularity worldwide. It has developed over the last decade and is expected to reach US$1 billion in 2020. With its popularity, it also opens up new revenue sources for media companies and gaming companies.

Esports is played online. Players band together in teams to beat their opponents in games. The teams are typically professional, but amateur players also participate. Esports is a popular activity in the United States and Europe, but is underdeveloped in Japan. In Japan, esports is governed by a broad anti-gambling law. Many games are played on PCs or mobile devices.

In order to participate in eSports, players must have good communication skills and quick reaction time. In addition, they need precise movement patterns and strategic thinking. Some esports games are team-based, while others are one-on-one. Some games are ranked, with a player advancing based on their performance in a given match. Others are based on a battle royale system. In Battle Royale games, the winner is decided by how quickly they can destroy their opponent’s base. In most cases, reaction time is crucial for victory.

eSports has developed from a hobby sector into a large industry, with players paid by operators. Players are usually young and at peak physical and mental performance. Esports also has a wide following of fans. Over 60% of esports fans will travel to a live physical event to watch their favorite games. In addition, esports competitions are also televised, with a large audience following the games. This makes esports a popular spectator sport, and the esports industry is expected to grow to $1 billion in 2020.

In the past decade, esports has developed into a global industry with several major sponsors and major esports organisations. The top organisations include Fnatic, Team Liquid, and G2 esports. In addition to the top organisations, there are many other organizations that play different types of video games. In many cases, these organizations have several teams, each specialized in a different game. In some cases, they compete under the same name, while in others they are separate teams.

Esports tournaments are broadcast on TV and online. Some of the largest events draw millions of fans. For example, the League of Legends Championship was sold out in a stadium in Seoul, with 40,000 seats. This tournament drew 27 million viewers online. Other popular esports tournaments are held in Seattle’s KeyArena, London’s Wembley Arena, and the Intel Extreme Masters. The prize money for these tournaments can be hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Many of the games are played on PCs and mobile devices, and are available wherever people want to play. Streaming services like YouTube and Twitch have become popular. In addition, high-quality games are available for consoles. This means that esports is a scalable sport, which makes it more attractive to companies. It also means that esports tournaments can be hosted in many different locations, such as stadiums.
