When it comes to gaming, esports is an exciting new form of competition. In recent years, people are playing online games for money, for the enjoyment of others, or even for self-actualization. What is esport? Read on to find out! Here are three reasons you should consider becoming an esport player:

esports is a new form of sport

Esports is a growing phenomenon that has the potential to become a legitimate form of competitive sport. It has been played in a number of multi-nation events, but many are skeptical that it can replace traditional sports. But esports players are just as athletic and physically capable as their traditional counterparts. They train for years and may even be considered the next gold medalists. Ultimately, it is the players’ desire to win that drives esports’ growth.

    It generates revenue

There are several ways to generate revenue in eSports. Major sources include investments, media rights, ticketed live events, and sponsorships. In 2016, eSports generated $1.5 billion in revenue, and that figure is expected to grow to nearly $2 billion by 2020. In addition to sponsoring players and events, eSports companies also compete for television, magazine, and print advertising space, as well as merchandise and merchandising.

It is a means of self-actualization

A growing number of youth are using video games as a means of self-actualization, and esport is one of these outlets. Professional esport players report various motivational drivers, including competitive gratification, personal satisfaction, and social fulfillment. As an added incentive, esport is a lucrative profession for top-tier players. This article examines the reasons why people participate in esports, and what it means for their self-actualization.

It is a bridge to STEM fields

The growth of esports as a form of competitive gaming is helping to fill a critical STEM skills gap. These competitive video games attract a younger audience interested in cutting-edge technology, which will help STEM fields flourish. According to a report by the National Science Foundation, about 36 percent of college students major in STEM fields. Moreover, esports have an added benefit of financial aid, with higher education institutions now offering nearly $15 million in scholarships to competitive gamers.

It is a phenomenon of the digital age

There’s a reason why esports have become so popular. Despite being a relatively new game genre, esports have spawned superstar teams and players with huge social followings. A leading player in a game like League of Legends can earn more than $2 million a year – not counting sponsorship revenue. And smart media companies have taken notice. The ELeague is now the NFL of esports.
